Toyota has transformed its HiLux into a real life Tonka Truck and it looks Amazing! The concept was designed in house by Toyota's own dedicated team of designers. The Tonka concept has a number of impressive looking features. The carbon-fibre bodywork, Led light bars and 35 inch tyres on black alloy rims make this concept really stand out. Chief Designer at Toyota Motor Corp Nicolas Hogios lead the project and expressed that he wanted to portray the brand's fun side. "We have taken Tonka out of the sand pit and reinvented HiLux from top to bottom and from nose to tail," Hogios explained. "Inspired by the Tonka trucks that kids play with in their backyards, the HiLux Tonka Concept goes way beyond the already hugely capable abilities of HiLux to traverse rocks and other rugged terrain" "The HiLux Tonka Concept is dramatic evidence that our local team loves to have fun, we're keen to explore new ideas and we're always looking to push the boundaries of what's possible," he said. The concept started out as a standard HiLux SR5 that was then transformed via modified bodywork, new front bumper, grille and a carbon wrapped bonnet with a large bulge giving it a true Tonka Appearance. The Ride height has been increased by 150mm for increased clearance accompanied by a high-riding axle and heavy duty suspension. The front has a 6mm underbody bash plate installed to prevent any damage to the engine and oil sump. A snorkel and a neatly housed LED light bar have also been included to top things off. Will it be available to the Public? Unfortunately a Tonka concept will not be available. There is however a new TRD Hilux for those seeking more than just an SR5. An aftermarket 'Tonka' package would be welcomed by many.
