Victorian High Country - Billy Goats Bluff TK

Billy Goat's Bluff is a popular 4wd trail that's located deep within the Alpine National Park, in Victorian High Country. The track has been marked 'very steep' on Hema Maps and for good reason. A 7km drive up the treacherous rocky fire trail will bring you to a height of 1200 meters above sea level. In winter the track is usually coated in snow, so be sure to pack a set of chains if your crazy enough to give it a crack.

The track should not be tried in bad weather as it is incredibly steep & rocky. It is recommended that only experienced drivers tackle Billy Goat's Bluff. During your ascent be sure to take in some of the stunning view's on both your left and right. The high point gives you some excellent vantage points so have your camera's ready~!

The track is occasionally graded that can make it more slippery in areas when wet. Be sure to use your lo range gears when descending the 5km track to the valley base.

TRACK TIPS & RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Be sure to deflate your Tyre's to a 20-25psi (personal preference per vehicle) to help with traction and a smoother ride.
• Always go with a mate or if your a bit of a lone ranger, team up with your local 4x4 club.
• Only experienced drivers should tackle Billy Goat's Bluff.
• Must have UHF radio to communicate. The track is very narrow and can be tricky to pass other drivers coming the other way. So comms are essential.
• Allow 1 hour travel time up and down.
• Use Low Range as frequently as possible on your descent to avoid chewing your breaks.
  
• Ensure you have enough fuel to comfortably get to your destination.
